Google unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday (Oct. 28), a model the company calls the strongest in its Gemini family. For now, though, only a small group of digital security specialists can use it. The same day, Alphabet and Microsoft reported quarterly results with sharp cloud growth, and Microsoft began offering other companies the engine that runs the AI agents in its Copilot products. The sources the newsroom consulted say nothing about availability in Brazil or prices in Brazilian reais (R$).

Gemini 4 Carbon: access starts small

According to Google DeepMind, Carbon was built for long-running coding tasks and for defending systems against attacks. The company says the model tops an Artificial Analysis index with 59 points. It also cites software-security test results, measured with the model's safeguards turned off, including 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro, a benchmark for finding vulnerabilities. These figures come from the company itself, and the newsroom could not reproduce them.

For readers in Brazil, little changes at the moment. According to the announcement, Carbon begins rolling out this week to a subset of cyber defenders, and access will widen gradually to trusted partners through a program called Fairwind. Google says it wants to open the model to developers, businesses and consumers as quickly as it can, but gives no date. The introductory price, quoted in U.S. dollars, is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, the same as Gemini 4 Argon, which launched two weeks earlier. After the introductory period, Google says the rates will be $4 and $20, double. The announcement does not say in which countries the model will be available.

Cloud drives results at Alphabet and Microsoft

In its third-quarter report, Alphabet, Google's parent company, posted revenue of $127.6 billion, up 25%. Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7 billion, which the company attributes to demand for AI infrastructure and solutions. Alphabet also points to sales of systems that use TPUs, its in-house chips. In the same release, chief executive Sundar Pichai says the Gemini app has reached 1 billion users.

Microsoft, reporting for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, posted revenue of $92.3 billion, up 19%. Microsoft Cloud revenue came to $63.9 billion, up 30%, and Azure, the company's cloud computing service, grew 48%. The figures come from the two companies' official earnings releases. Alphabet says Google Cloud's growth stems from demand for AI infrastructure and solutions; the portions of Microsoft's release the newsroom reviewed do not explain the cause. The numbers do not show how Brazilian consumers will be affected, and they are not investment advice. The newsroom also could not open the Associated Press report on Google's results, which was cited in the AI Updates edition covering them.

Microsoft opens the Copilot agent engine

In a post on its official blog, Microsoft and GitHub executives explain that the "harness" is the layer that orchestrates an AI agent: the instructions, context, execution environment and controls around the model. Microsoft says it has adopted the harness internally, the one built by the GitHub team, which underpins products such as Copilot Studio and GitHub Copilot, and is now making it available through Microsoft Foundry, its platform for building agents.

According to Microsoft, the engine works with more than 20 leading models and accepts a customer's own key, so users can switch models without rebuilding the rest of the system. It is aimed at developers and businesses. The announcement gives no price, language or list of regions, and it does not say whether the service is in preview or generally available.

Google opens preview of an app platform for Search and Gemini

Google also launched, in preview, the Connected Apps Platform, which lets developers build an app once and bring it to both Search and the Gemini app. The company says more than 50 apps are already connected, and names partners including Adobe, Experian, Brazilian car-rental company Localiza and Peloton, which are already live in Gemini. In the coming weeks, those apps will also arrive in Search. Google does not say in which countries or languages each integration works. Access for new developers will open in phases, with more markets over the next few months, though no list is given.
