National holidays in 2026
The national calendar for 2026 has 10 holidays, and how they fall in the week decides how much time off each one gives. Good Friday (April 3), Labor Day (May 1), Independence Day (September 7), Our Lady of Aparecida Day (October 12), All Souls' Day (November 2), Black Awareness Day (November 20) and Christmas (December 25) make a three-day long weekend; New Year's Day (January 1) and Tiradentes Day (April 21) allow the break to stretch to four days by taking one workday off. Republic Proclamation Day (Sunday, November 15) falls on a weekend and gives no extra day off.
Good Friday is counted because the Ministry of Management's ordinance treats it as a national holiday, although the legal basis is Law 9,093/1995 (art. 2), which places it among the religious holidays set by municipal law. The panel above counts how many days remain until the next national holiday. Carnival, Corpus Christi and the federal optional days off, which are not holidays under federal law, are in the page for 2026, and retail dates such as Mother's Day are on the holidays and special dates.

What about holidays in my state and my city?
This page lists only the holidays national. State and municipal holidays vary by location: Law 9,093/1995 lets each state set its principal date, and lets each municipality declare the start and end days of its founding centennial year and up to four religious holidays, including Good Friday. To find out yours, check with your city hall or state government.
