Crypto: 24 of 27 coins fall as bitcoin slips 0.59%

As of 5:59 p.m. Brasília time on Sunday (Oct. 18), 24 of the 27 cryptocurrencies listed on Mercado Bitcoin, a Brazilian exchange, were trading below their prices of 24 hours earlier, according to data from the exchange's API. RaisLife's tally shows a broad decline. Among the four non-stablecoin assets with the highest trading volume (bitcoin, ether, Solana and XRP), losses ranged from 0.59% to 2.83%. Bitcoin fell 0.59% to R$411.806 (Brazilian reais, or R$), and ether lost 2.59%, dropping to R$11.967.
Bitcoin and ether
Bitcoin traded at R$411.806, against R$414.269 a day earlier, according to the exchange's public API. Over the past 24 hours its price ranged from a low of R$410.500 to a high of R$417.996. That was the smallest drop among the coins other than stablecoins that declined. Among coins other than stablecoins, only one rose: Cosmos (ATOM) gained 0.50% to R$8.61.
Ether (ETH) fell 2.59%, from R$12.285 to R$11.967, with a 24-hour range of R$11.866 to R$12.338. Trading volume on Mercado Bitcoin, a single exchange, came to R$885.800 for ether and R$2.34 million for bitcoin. Volume in reais is the quantity traded multiplied by the last price, which makes it an approximation, and it applies only to this exchange.
Other notable coins
Solana (SOL) slid 2.83% to R$514.53, and XRP fell 2.74% to R$6.43. Among coins with at least R$100.000 traded on the exchange during the period, the steepest drop was NEAR's, at 6.17%, to R$23.82, on volume of R$198.000. On smaller volumes of R$77.500 and R$79.700, Chainlink (LINK) lost 2.35% and Aave (AAVE) lost 3.56%, to R$747.28.
Several coins fell by more than 3%. Cardano (ADA) dropped 4.46% to R$1.08, Dogecoin (DOGE) fell 3.82% to R$0.39, and Avalanche (AVAX) lost 4.67% to R$47.85. All three traded thinly, between R$17.600 and R$34.400 over 24 hours. That points to a thinner market on this exchange, where moves can reflect only a handful of trades. The biggest percentage drop on the list, ENA's 9.06% to R$0.89, also came on volume below R$100.000 (R$92.500).
A word on stablecoins
Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC), stablecoins that aim to track the U.S. dollar, rose 0.31% and 0.17% in reais, to R$5.0879 and R$5.0901. Because they are quoted in reais, a stablecoin's move mainly reflects the dollar-real exchange rate, along with the exchange's liquidity, and does not signal that the asset gained value. USDT is the second-largest coin by volume on Mercado Bitcoin, at R$1.05 million, and USDC is fourth, at R$587.000.
Stablecoins carry their own risks. They are not covered by the FGC, Brazil's deposit guarantee fund (Fundo Garantidor de Créditos), or by Brazil's central bank, and the peg to the dollar depends on the reserves of whoever issues the asset and can break. Under Central Bank of Brazil Resolution 521, in force since Feb. 2, 2026 (with some provisions in effect since May 4, 2026), transactions in virtual assets pegged to a fiat currency, such as stablecoins, are treated by the central bank as foreign-exchange market transactions, to be carried out by authorized service providers.
How to read the numbers
Prices, 24-hour changes and volumes come from Mercado Bitcoin's public API, which lists 27 coins, and may differ from figures at other exchanges. Combined volume for the 27 coins on Mercado Bitcoin was R$6.52 million over the past 24 hours, with bitcoin accounting for about 36% and the two stablecoins for about 25%. Each change compares the latest price with the price 24 hours earlier. Quotes and charts for each coin are on the crypto prices today page, along with pages for bitcoin, ether and tether.
