FGTS birthday withdrawal: birth month and withdrawal deadline
With the birthday withdrawal, workers can take out part of their balance once a year, in their birthday month. Choose the month to see the deadline.
The birthday withdrawal (saque-aniversário) is an optional FGTS option that lets workers take out part of their account balance once a year. The right arises in the worker’s birthday month, and the law allows a window for the withdrawal, which can be made up to the last business day of the second following month. Those who have not enrolled stay in the termination withdrawal (saque-rescisão), the default option.
In October, the birthday-withdrawal deadline falls on the last business day of the month for people whose birthday is in August (check the FGTS app to see whether there is still time); those born in September have until the last business day of the following month, and those whose birthday is in October can withdraw now, with a deadline of the last business day of the second month after. This applies only to workers who opted into the birthday withdrawal.
Beware of scams. RaisLife never asks for your NIS, CPF, password or money. No one from INSS, Caixa or the government charges to release a benefit or asks for a code by phone, text message or WhatsApp. Check only Meu INSS, CAIXA Tem, gov.br and the official channels. See the full notice and sources.
Choose your birthday month.
The exact day the money arrives depends on your account and your enrollment: check the FGTS app (FGTS is Brazil’s severance guarantee fund). This page does not show amounts.
Be careful with advances on the birthday withdrawal. Loans secured by FGTS (employee guarantee fund) balances are the main source of scams and over-indebtedness tied to this topic. Borrow only through Caixa and authorized institutions, never share your password or app code with anyone, and read the question about loan collateral below.

Frequently asked questions
Who is eligible for the birthday withdrawal?
Only those who enrolled. Enrollment is optional; those who have not enrolled stay in the termination withdrawal, the default option under which workers join the FGTS.
Until when can I withdraw?
The law allows withdrawals until the last business day of the second month after the birthday month (art. 20, § 24, of Law 8.036/1990). For example, if your birthday is in March, you have until the last business day of May.
How do I look up my amount and request the withdrawal?
In the FGTS app or on the fgts.gov.br website. This page shows only dates and rules, not amounts.
Can I go back to the termination withdrawal?
Yes, but the change takes effect only from the first day of the 25th month after the request, according to Caixa. A first-time enrollment in the birthday withdrawal takes effect immediately.
What if I am dismissed?
Workers who enrolled in the birthday withdrawal and are dismissed without cause receive the termination penalty, but cannot withdraw the account balance all at once: the rest is released only in the birthday withdrawals of the following years or in the other cases provided by law. Even after requesting a return to the termination withdrawal, anyone dismissed while the birthday withdrawal was in effect receives only the penalty. Information from the FGTS website (Caixa), not a recommendation to enroll or not.
Can I use the birthday withdrawal as loan collateral?
Yes: authorized financial institutions offer loans secured by the amount the worker is entitled to withdraw in upcoming birthday withdrawals, and the FGTS lists the rules below, without recommending that you take one. The inquiry and the lien are authorized only 90 days after enrollment; each birthday withdrawal can be tied to a single transaction, of at least R$ 100 and at most R$ 500 per withdrawal; through Oct 31, 2026, up to 5 annual withdrawals can be advanced, and from Nov 1, 2026, up to 3; a new loan depends on paying off the current one; and returning to the termination withdrawal is not possible while an advance is in place (CCFGTS Resolution No. 1,130, of October 7, 2025, rules checked on Oct 14, 2026). Be wary of anyone who asks for your password, an app code or an upfront payment to advance or release your FGTS: legitimate loans are arranged only through Caixa’s channels and authorized institutions, and RaisLife never asks for your data.
