What the number means
The IPCA, Brazil’s official consumer price index, measures the average change in the prices of a basket of goods and services consumed by households. The monthly change compares the month with the previous one; the 12-month cumulative figure compares it with the same month a year earlier and is the measure used to track the inflation target. For the Selic rate and what it represents, see Selic, TR and interest rates today.
