Hebrew Night Prayer for Sleep and Peace | Peace Through the Night
Night Peace: Peace Through the Night is an original Hebrew bedtime prayer, sung slowly and set on a still terrace under the stars. It is a quiet space for the end of the day, for lying down, releasing what you have carried, and resting in a gentle sense of peace. The piece runs a little over nine minutes and is meant to be played as the lights go down.
The lyric and the melody are new, written for this video. This is not a psalm, and it is not a rewording of any traditional night prayer. It is a simple prayer in Hebrew, built from short, repeated lines that are easy to follow even if you do not know the language. The Hebrew is transliterated in the opening lines so you can sing along softly: Layla ba, v'ani b'shalom. Roshi nach l'fanecha.
In plain English, the lines speak of night arriving while the singer is at peace, and of a head laid down in the presence of God. They speak of the day having passed and of being held in God's hands, of peace on the waters and peace in the heart, of the moon keeping watch and the stars standing in silence. Later the prayer turns to trust: the darkness does not frighten, because You are here, and the heart grows still in the night. It closes with peace through the night until morning, and with the word menucha, rest.
The music moves in gentle waves. Short sung verses are followed by long instrumental passages of stillness, where there are no words at all and the sound simply opens out like the night sky. These pauses are the heart of the video. You may use them to breathe slowly, to name the worries of the day and set them down, or simply to be quiet and let the music carry on without you.
This video may suit several moments. You can play it as you fall asleep, as a soft background for a short evening prayer, or during a quiet half hour of reflection before bed. Some listeners keep it on while journaling, reading, or sitting in the dark after a long day. Because the pace is slow and the arrangement is spare, it also works as a calm backdrop when you want to unwind without being pulled toward anything.
No outcome is promised here. This is not a cure for sleeplessness and not a charm against fear. It is an invitation to give the night a little reverence: to lie down, to let your head rest, and to speak or hear a few honest words of surrender. If sleep comes, let it come. If it does not, you may still find the stillness worth keeping.
If you would like to pray along, you can repeat the refrain in your own language, or just let one line stay with you: peace on the waters, peace on the heart. Let the stars stand in silence, and let the day be finished.
